Inevitably, every Spring we must re-visit this topic. For those of you who have gotten and adopted the rule, I apologize for harping on this AGAIN. Currently, I am sitting at the corner market working on some strategic, growth plans for the Trunk Club. I look across the market, and low and behold, I see white legs and white tube socks staring back at me.
Let me give you the clear picture: This is a middle aged man, probably 47. He is wearing khaki, pleated shorts that fall above the knee. His short sleeve, plaid button-up shirt is un tucked and his hairy legs are white. Look lower and there are the infamous white tube socks. His are “scrunched” down. Does he think we won’t notice? He is boasting his white tube socks with some sort of low hiking boot, not a tennis shoe and statement shoe. I would forgive his attire if it weren’t for the tube socks.
The RULE: Men, white tube socks (with ribs, that are athletic and boast a brand like Russell) are not acceptable in public. Please do not even wear these when exercising. Ankle socks were invented for a reason. ”Tube” designates nothing positive when used in terms of your attire. I suggest that you take all of your white, athletic tube socks and donate them to good will. Your son’s are not to get these in the “hand me down” pile. Once you do this, go to your neighborhood WalMart and buy all new white socks (yes, white socks are necessary sometimes). Requirement: Buy only ankle socks. This will hide the white tube sock and leave you with short, leg and shoe–a much classier look.

Hi,
I do not think so actually. On the contary I wore white socks calf length or sometimes at knee high with my shorts. I agree that rib sports socks might be unsightly sometimes, but I guess they are pretty approved for man.
Because I do not want to project an overall sporty image, sometimes I picked a pair of smooth cotton knee highs to go with my shorts.
I tend to feel a white knee high legs look really grand actually.
Just my 2 cents worth of sharing.
